The Gmail Hover Actions Feature

The Gmail Hover Actions feature is a handy Gmail feature that allows you to take “quick actions” on Emails directly from your Inbox.

Using the Gmail Hover Actions Feature:

1. Select an Email in your Gmail Inbox.

2. Move your mouse over any Email in your Gmail Inbox.

3. The “Date/Time Stamp” that is displayed to the far right will now be replaced by several different “Action Icons”.

The following Hover Actions are available (Left to Right):

  1. Archive - Move the Email to your Archive

  2. Delete - Move the Email to your Trash

  3. Toggle between Read/Unread - Change the Email from Read to Unread (or vice-versa)

  4. Snooze - Hide the Email until a specific date/time

4. Simply “Select” one of these icons to execute the feature.

5. Done!

Although these actions can also be implemented by using the Gmail Shortcuts Feature, the “Hover Actions” are handy and can be executed using only your Mouse.

Enabling the Gmail Hover Actions Feature:

If you do not see the “Hover Actions” when you hover over an Email, you may need to turn this feature “on” in Gmail Settings.

1. Go to your Email Settings.

2. Select “All Settings

3. Select the “General” Tab:

4. The “Hover Actions” feature is listed about half-way down the page. Toggle it to either “Enable” or “Disable

5. Make sure to select “Save Changes

Limitations of the Gmail Hover Feature:

Unfortunately, there is no way to modify or customize the Hover Actions - you either can enable all of them or turn them all off.
